When I @veganwolf1 became a Vegan in July 1990 there was no such thing as Vegan Cheeze……. Or Nutritional Yeast flakes.
I’d read about yeast flakes in American and UK cookbooks but couldn’t buy it here in Australia…..I used Tahini as my cheesy substitute.
My partner @oceanauli read some of Viktoras Kulvinskas
& Anne Wigmores books on raw foods. There was a recipe to make Rejuvalac which is sprouted & fermented wheat water which you then add seed or nut meals to make a soft cheese, to add to sandwiches or spinach and nut cheeze rolls….etc and we made it regularly.
When I finally kicked the dairy addiction( I was a vegetarian that ate a lot of yogurt as well) and became vegan….. I did shed weight, as dairy products made me heavier. I then became fully plant powered, not long after I became pregnant with Khadi @thevegandancergirl.
Both Khadi and my son Jarieus @jarieus_wolf_brooke did not try hard vegan cheese etc until they were about 15 and 18…. And they did not understand what the fuss was about……Khadi found it salty while Jarieus didn’t mind it but he never requested we buy it… Khadi once recalled working at a Vegan Wine and cheese Night at the Greenedge in Brisbane and she couldn’t understand why all the vegans were pushing in to get to the cheeze platters and the devouring the cheeze like crazy……..like there was no tomorrow ……she just grew up without it and got her mummas milk for well over 3 years and loved tahini & almond mylk.
Tis awesome that Khadi like my son, Jarieus are #Plantpowered from utero….. Some vegan cheeses on the market are-
Bute Island Cheeses
Please list and tag other cheezes.
